Map
About Colonia Hipódromo Dos, Tijuana
Colonia Hipódromo Dos is a compact colonia of about twenty-two hectares in the La Mesa delegación, on the slopes south-east of the Agua Caliente racetrack that gave it its name. Despite sharing that name with Colonia Hipódromo, the two are separate colonias in different delegaciones, roughly two kilometres apart, with Lomas de Agua Caliente and Las Palmas lying between them.
The colonia is almost entirely residential, bounded by Prolongación Vallarta and Avenida Alba Roja and hemmed in by small neighbours — Gerónimo Meza, Electricistas, Camino Real, Monte Bello, El Mirador and Los Olivos Norte. Streets are short and the grade is noticeable; there is little through-traffic and almost no commerce beyond a Calimax and a scatter of corner shops.
That residential quiet is why a U.S. address gets used here for household categories: electronics, appliances, clothing and children's items, where U.S. range and pricing diverge sharply from local and where many retailers refuse Mexican addresses outright.
The run to the border is under ten minutes, so households tend to collect as orders arrive rather than saving them up.
